The Social Work & Development (SW&D) program within the Faculty of Arts and Science at the University of Aruba will host the fourth edition of Social Carousel on Tuesday, October 13, 2026. The event will take place at the University of Aruba from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
Following an evaluation of previous editions and feedback from participants, the SW&D program has expanded this year’s event to include the general public. The initiative aims to give both students and members of the community an opportunity to learn more about the organizations and services available on the island.
Social Carousel 2026 will bring together organizations, institutions, and professionals working in fields such as social welfare, healthcare, education, and justice. Through informational booths, presentations, and direct conversations with professionals, visitors can learn about the services and projects these organizations offer and how their work contributes to the well-being and development of the Aruban community.
The event aims to strengthen the connection between higher education, professional practice, and the community. For SW&D students, it offers an opportunity to explore career paths in Aruba, learn about different areas of social work, and begin building professional networks while still studying.
Beyond its educational purpose, Social Carousel seeks to encourage dialogue, knowledge sharing, and collaboration among organizations, professionals, and community members.
The initiative also highlights the importance of preparing future social workers for the realities they will encounter outside the classroom. Students need to understand the challenges facing their community, the roles and responsibilities of different organizations, and the importance of cooperation across sectors to address social issues.
Through Social Carousel, the SW&D program continues to promote an education that connects academic learning with practical experience. The event also gives organizations a platform to present their services, share their expertise, and build connections with students, professionals, and the wider community.
