Aruba refuses meat from Colombia

Businessman Hubert Dirksz, is disgusted with the situation of importing meat. For 15 years already, it is prohibited to import meat from Colombia and without a valid reason.

In 2006, Aruba decided to only import meat from countries that export to the US and Europe because the veterinarians did not want to travel to Colombia anymore. Dirksz, director of Compra N.V., went to court many times, but the Government kept adapting the law to prohibit the import of meat from Colombia.

He questioned that patients are sent to Colombia, where they eat Colombian meat, while it is not allowed to import meat from Colombia. He feels that the people are harmed by this decision because meat could be bought at a lower price, as is the case in Curacao.
