After a 10 year sentence: Juan Junior Blauw Quant soon to be released from prison

A case that shook the Aruban community, which to this day, remains a sensitive topic for those close to the tragedy.

Juan Junior Quant, better known as Blauw, committed a heinous crime that rarely occurs on our island. On March 27th 2011, when Blauw was a mere 34 years old, he shot his partner three times in their home causing her to almost lose her life.

The victim, Chaldira Vis, was critically injured when she was struck by three bullets; one in her chin, one in her throat, and a final one in the head. Besides that, the police also described how Chaldira Vis was suffocated with a plastic bag because the gun was jammed and that she was alive throughout the ordeal. Paramedics were able to rush the victim to the hospital with maximum urgency in an attempt to save her life. Later, Chaldira was also transported abroad in an extended effort to save her life. After two months abroad, Chaldira returned home, but things would never be the same for her.

During his detainment at the police station, we recall the moment when Juan Junior Blauw Quant attempted to take his own life while still being held. Fortunately, the police were quick to find him and reanimated Blauw. By doing this, the police saved his life after which he was quickly transported to the hospital where he spent a few weeks in a coma. On April 28, as soon as he regained consciousness, Blauw was transported to KIA where interrogations were initiated.

Since then, Blauw has consistently spoken out that he doesn’t recall the events that took place that evening. At the time, he was an employee of WEB and after attending a corporate event, Blauw went home that evening to then commit the crime that occurred around 8:00 pm.

In July of that same year, Blauw, as the main suspect, appeared in court where the prosecutors requested the maximum prison sentence of 15 years. And after 10 years in prison, the moment has arrived for Blauw to regain his freedom after having paid his debts to society.

During his incarceration, Blauw was known as an exemplary inmate who dedicated his time attending all sorts of courses and studies to keep himself busy during his years behind bars. Until this day, however, he claims to not remember anything about that horrific evening at his residence in Pavia.

It is not yet known how Juan Junior Blauw Quant will reintegrate in our society, but what is clear, however, is that his victim has voiced her concerns and trauma about her aggressor being able to move around freely and continue on with his life. The public prosecutor’s office has recently informed Chaldira Vis of Blauw’s release. Chaldira is currently still receiving medical treatment in the Netherlands where she lives with their son who was a minor at the time.
