On Tuesday morning, it was noted that the RT channels as well as Sputnik were unavailable on YouTube. These are the media channels affiliated to the Russian government that have been blocked. As Aruba forms part of the Kingdom, albeit with an autonomous status, we are also blocked access to these channels.
The measures taken are based on the petition of various European leaders who had asked to prohibit the transmission of Russian media in the context of the Ukrainian invasion.
The largest media groups such as Google Europe and Meta, restricted these media channels from their social media platforms. Platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp blocked access to RT and the Sputnik agency after petitions by the European Union.
