Government is “unpleasantly surprised” by WEB’s increased tariffs

During the press conference that took place just now, Prime Minister Evelyn Wever-Croes gave the first impression on behalf of the Aruban government concerning WEB’s announcement regarding their increase in water tariffs. “The government is unpleasantly surprised”, said Wever-Croes, indicating that she has not yet sat with WEB to discuss the topic.

Other companies have also asked to increase their prices after WEB did so, but the Prime Minister asks that certain tasks be done first. Wever-Croes made it clear that there was no communication between her and WEB about this announcement beforehand.

Furthermore, she stated that she herself is not in charge of the issue, but that her colleague, Glenbert Croes, as having the title of Minister of energy, has the task to deal with this affair. As soon as there are any developments concerning this topic, they will be communicated to the public.
