Aruba’s smooth sailing while Curacao has code yellow

It is not a secret that the Aruban public has little faith in the weather predictions made by the “Departamento Meteorologico Aruba” or DMA. Their credibility is very low, especially compared to our sister island Curacao’s weather predictions. Today is no exception. DMA predicted smooth weather and did not issue any weather alerts. Just a few kilometers away, Curacao has issued ‘code yellow’  to its public.

Curacao’s weather predictions appear to be more reliable because they have personnel that are educated on the topic, which is something we do not have yet.

Aruba’s weather predictions:

This evening: partially cloudy and generally dry. Tomorrow morning: partially cloudy with light rain. Maximum temperature will reach 30 degrees celsius, while lowest will reach 25 degrees celsius.

Wind: moderate winds, generally from the east with forces of 12 to 30 km/h.

General weather prognostication for the next 24 hours: possible humidity and clouds that could lead to showers. Due to the saturated earth, even this light rain can lead to some disturbances on the road on some parts of the island. It is suspected to rain 1 to 5 mm in the next 24 hours; this may vary per area.

As you can see, this mild weather forecast is in stark contrast to Curacao’s weather predictions, which predict far more rain, which has led them to classify tonight and tomorrow’s weather with a code yellow.
