SEPTEMBER 2023 IN COMPARISON TO 2019 AND 2022

During the month of September 2023, Aruba received a total of 89.110 “stay-over” visitors. When comparing  September 2023 to  September 2019 – which is considered to be the last normal month for tourism before the pandemic – we can see that there was a 121% recovery. When September 2023 was compared to September 2022, a 12.4% recuperation was noted.

AVERAGE SPENDING PATTERN PER VISITOR IN Q2 2023
Visa Credit Card’s average spending per cardholder reached a sum of $625 for Q2 in comparison to $667 in Q1 2023. Mastercard’s average spending per cardholder totaled $691 in Q2, compared to $740 in Q1 2023.

MARKETS AND ACCOMMODATION CATEGORIES

In September 2023,76.3% of the total “stayover” visitors came from North America, 6.7% came from Europe, 14.1% came from Latin America, and 3% came from other parts of the world. 

When looking at the accommodation categories in September 2023, 26.4% of the visitors stayed in European Plan hotels, 17.3% stayed in All-Inclusive hotels, 28.3% stayed in Timeshares and 27.9% stayed in other types of accommodation types, otherwise known as vacation rentals.

VACATION RENTALS

It is important to mention that A.T.A. has access to a platform that is able to see the number of homes, apartments, and villas that are being used as vacation rentals as well as the average prices per night, the occupation, and a calculation of the garnered revenue. 

When comparing September 2023 with September 2022, we can see that the average price for this accommodation has increased by 23%, from an average price of $200 per night in September 2022 to $245 in September 2023. When comparing September 2023 with September 2019, we can see that the average price has increased by 61%, from average prices per night ranging from $152 in September 2019 to $245 in September 2023. 

If we compare September 2023 with September 2022, we can see that the average occupation has increased by 5%, going from an average of 45% in September 2022, to an average of 50% in September 2023. When comparing this same average to September 2019, we can see an increase of 8%, from 42% in September 2019 to 50% in September 2023.

As for revenue, when comparing September 2023 to September 2022 we can see an increase of 61% and when comparing September 2023 with September 2019, we can see an increase of 308%.

Up to September 2023, Aruba received a total of 917.739, “stayover” visitors, which is an 8.1% growth when compared to the first 9 months of 2019, during which we received 848.841 “stayover” visitors. When we compare these same months to the first 9 months of 2022, we see an increase of 12.4%, going from 816.362 “stayover” visitors to 917.739.
