Drivers parking on sidewalks near schools are creating safety concerns for students who need to walk between Rosario College and Saint Rosa College. With sidewalks blocked, students are sometimes forced to walk on roads with active traffic, increasing the risk of an accident.
Patricia de Palm, an internal guidance counselor and acting deputy principal at Rosario College, explained that major construction work is currently taking place around the school. In addition, three classes are temporarily being held at Saint Rosa College. As a result, students must travel between the two locations during the morning and afternoon.
De Palm said that the situation is particularly concerning when vehicles are parked on sidewalks, leaving students with little room to pass. Instead of being able to remain on the designated pedestrian sidewalk, they are forced to step onto the main road and come dangerously close to active traffic.
De Palm is therefore calling on drivers to be more considerate and avoid parking on sidewalks near the schools. She encourages motorists to use designated parking areas or other appropriate spaces along the side of the road, allowing students to move safely between Saint Rosa College and Rosario College.
