Authorities carried out a judicial raid Tuesday night at Maxime bar in Oranjestad, during which four women working at the establishment were taken from the scene.
The Human Trafficking and Smuggling team led the operation. A large number of judicial officers arrived at the bar and secured the surrounding area before entering to conduct a search.
It is not yet known what prompted the investigation or whether it was based on a tip or a complaint.
Maxime is a bar where female staff members provide entertainment for male patrons. Authorities searched the premises as well as vehicles outside the establishment before taking four women who were working there from the location.
The owner and other individuals responsible for the bar were not arrested during the operation.
Authorities remained at the establishment for an extended period while they conducted their investigation.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office was contacted but did not provide further details. Police were expected to release official information during the course of the day.
