Leandro Santiesteban made history for Aruba at the PanAm Aquatics Championships in Ibagué, Colombia, earning a gold medal in a competition featuring more than 31 countries and over 550 athletes.

The young swimmer started the championship with a bronze medal in the 100-meter breaststroke, where he was the only 14-year-old competitor in the final and recorded a new personal best.

On the third day of competition, Leandro continued his strong performance in the 50-meter breaststroke. Once again, he was the only 14-year-old swimmer in the final, competing against some of the top swimmers from across the Americas.

With a strong race and a decisive touch at the wall, Leandro captured the gold medal, bringing home a historic victory for Aruba.

The achievement represents the result of years of dedication, discipline, sacrifice, and passion for swimming. Leandro showed that age is not a limitation when preparation, determination, and commitment come together.

Stingray Swimming Team expressed great pride in Leandro’s accomplishment, noting that his success goes beyond the medal itself. His performance serves as an inspiration to young athletes in Aruba and shows that no dream is too big.

Congratulations to Leandro on this remarkable achievement. After making Aruba proud with bronze and now gold, his journey is only beginning.
