On Wednesday afternoon, the 24ora.com news team received a call from Shirley Bremen, a resident of Doormanstraat, who said her dog had died on Monday night. As of Wednesday, Serlimar had still not come to collect the animal.
Bremen said she had contacted Serlimar multiple times but received no response. Out of desperation, she also reached out to the police, who advised her to continue contacting Serlimar directly. According to Bremen, Serlimar eventually responded and informed her that there was not enough staff available to pick up the dog.
She said she found that explanation hard to believe and questioned how residents could be left without a solution in troubling situations like this.
Bremen described the situation as increasingly distressing, as the dog had been dead for days, left outside in the heat and had begun to swell and produce a strong odor. She added that the area had also become unhygienic due to the growing number of flies.
Update: Following our coverage of the story, the pet has since been collected and the situation has been resolved.
