Emmaschool teachers do not accept the Minister’s attitude

This morning teachers of Emmaschool had a meeting with labor union SEPPA, and SIMAR at their headquarter at Sabana Blanco. According to SIMAR’s president, Josephine Albertus, the teachers approached them last week. Together they formulated a letter directed to the Minister of Education, which he answered Tuesday afternoon.

The Minister’s letter began by stating that he owes the labor union no explanation, only Parliament. In other words, the teachers deserve no answer either. SIMAR’s job is to express the teacher’s concern, but this reaction from the Minister makes it sound as if the teachers should stay quiet and accept everything.

This is a dictatorial way of handling the situation instead of coming together to discuss and look for ways to agree.

It is unacceptable that when asking for the merging plan and the documents in written form, that the Minister answers back with, ” I spoke with you for four hours, and that is enough; stay quiet and accept.” And he intimidated the teacher by mentioning “no work, no pay.”

SIMAR and SEPPA are proud of the teachers because whatever the cost, they will fight for the rights of the special needs students that they teach.
