Aruba and Curaçao sign economic cooperation agreement

Aruba has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Curaçao. The signing of the economic cooperation agreement represents a collaboration between Aruba and Curaçao, working together towards a new era of economic development.

Geoffrey Wever, Minister of Economy, explained that today is a significant and important day in the relationship between Aruba and Curaçao. Aruba and Curaçao have always had strong ties, despite differences in politics, family, social, and economic aspects. The MoU signed today will strengthen this cooperation and together they can move forward towards a new era of economic development.

During a visit to the United States, Wever met with Minister Ruisandro Cijntje and exchanged ideas. They discussed the challenges and issues faced by both islands. They realized the similarities in the challenges and saw an opportunity for Aruba and Curaçao to work together in the economic field. They expressed their willingness to explore this path and signed the MoU. This brings them a step closer to economic collaboration.

Ruisandro Cijntje, Minister of Economic Development of Curaçao, explained that the MoU they are signing is a demonstration of their desire to work with each other. It is also a symbol of action, concrete action. Action to accelerate processes that have been talked about for a long time but have not materialized yet.

The agreement strengthens the bonds that have existed for decades. The areas that will be focused on include formalizing mutual arrangements that regulate market access between Aruba and Curaçao. This facilitates trade between the two islands.

Ruthmilda Larmonie-Cecilia, Vice Prime Minister of Curaçao, indicated that Aruba and Curaçao may be separate in terms of their state structures, but they will always remain siblings. The signing of the MoU demonstrates their commitment to cooperate as siblings within the kingdom. There is a lot of work ahead, but they also see that there will be many benefits for both Aruba and Curaçao. The Vice Prime Minister was extremely pleased with the signing of the agreement.
