Intensive inspections continue to take place at the private airport

Last week, there were several checks at the private airport. These comprehensive checks were carried out by the Afpakteam, Interpol, and UMM (Unit Human Smuggling and Trafficking) and took place in close cooperation with AAA (Aruba Airport Authority).

Angeline Flemming, Director of Health, Safety, and Sustainability at AAA, said: “These actions underline AAA’s objective to promote safe operations at the airport. The cooperation with local and international organizations responsible for law enforcement was excellent, and the joint efforts had a significant impact. The frequency will increase in the coming months.”

Afpakteam is a partnership between various investigative partners, including the Public Prosecutor’s Office, Police, Customs, the Financial Intelligence Unit (UIF), the Marechaussee (KMar), and the Coast Guard.

“Afpakteam” was established in 2017 with the aim of combating subversive financial crime more efficiently, particularly through the prevention and detection of money laundering activities and the confiscation of assets obtained through crime. The confiscated assets are placed in a special fund in Aruba, which is used to fight crime.

All partners indicated that more comprehensive inspections will be conducted in the future.

For tips and signs (of money laundering), you can communicate with the Afpakteam via the hotline (11141).
