Aruba excelled once again in the ABC Beach Tennis Cup

The second edition of the ABC Beach Tennis Cup recently took place in Bonaire. The sporting event drew the attention of many tennis players from each island to compete in beach tennis representing their respective islands.

With a participation of 80 teams and 160 registered players, it was a fully packed tournament. It was part of the Bonaire International Sports Week, during which athletes managed to earn various gold medals, showcasing their dominance in the sport. Among the conquered categories, Aruba stood out primarily in the Advanced divisions (both men and women) as well as in the Open Women’s division.

In the highly competitive Open Women’s category (the highest level), Maria Buuts and Eugemine Ignacio of Aruba stood out, securing gold medals with an outstanding performance during an intense and closely contested match against Farah Mesbahi and Inge Vos from Bonaire.

In the Advanced Men’s category, Anderson Giel and Amaro Maduro showcased their exceptional skills and determination to claim victory.

The final in the Advance Women’s category featured an all-Aruban final, with Jenna El Qualkadi and Rixt Kramer emerging as winners while Yentl Lieuw and Jacomien Aleman represented Aruba as finalists, thus demonstrating Aruba’s dominance in the ABC Cup.

The annual tournament also indicated a growth in the level of beach tennis on each of the islands, and the results were evident in the Open Men’s category, which saw a Bonairean final played by Jerry Lomp and Sigrel Burnet against the champions Tim Eikholt and Joeri van Bon.

The tournament was a great opportunity for players from the islands to come together, enjoy sports, and connect.

The Aruba Open Beach Tennis Championships, held in November at Bushiri Beach, is another major beach tennis event attracting athletes from around the world. Bonaire usually participates with around 50 players, so this was a good opportunity for Aruba’s teams to reciprocate the courtesy by participating in the ABC Cup.

Reflecting on the impressive performance over the weekend in Bonaire, Marc Kiezebrink of Beach Tennis Aruba expressed immense pride in the athletes’ achievements, attributing their success to their dedication and hard work. He emphasized the growing popularity of beach tennis worldwide and on the ABC islands.
