More than 40% of emergency room patients were not urgent cases

In the spirit of transparency and sharing information, Horacio Oduber Hospital presents the figures for February 2024. As a hospital, it is important and also interesting to provide the Aruban community with an indication of how many patients the hospital attends monthly, how many surgeries take place, but also how many babies are born during the month, how many patients return home after admission, and more.

In February, 811 patients were hospitalized, which is fewer compared to January, which had 882 patients. During admission, patients stayed an average of 4.3 days at HOH in February. The bed occupancy in January was alarming, but it decreased in February, although still high, at 96.6%. A total of 551 patients underwent surgery in February, which is 11 more operations than in January.

The Emergency Department saw a total of 2953 patients in January and 2806 patients in February, of which 43.2% were not patients requiring emergency care.

A total of 71 babies were born in February, 37 were boys and 34 were girls. In February, the Aruba Blood Bank received 191 blood donations.

Hospital specialists provided a total of 6355 consultations with patients, and the Radiology Department conducted a total of 4647 tests such as CT scans, MRIs, and more. A total of 11568 individuals visited LABHOH to undergo their tests, which is slightly fewer than in January, which had 12272 visits. In February, a total of 806 patients were discharged from the hospital and returned home.
