Police intervene with the selling of deceased’s items illegally

A problem occurred Saturday afternoon at a house in Oranjestad where a person who took after an older person who passed away started selling the deceased’s things without the family members’ permission.

Police arrived at a house in Sibeliustraat to deal with the situation of the caretaker, which is illegal.

The information received is that a woman took care of a sick older man, whose condition worsened and had to be transported to Colombia to receive further treatment. A sibling of the caretaker accompanied the older man to Colombia without his family knowing.

The patient passed away in Colombia, and without notifying the family members, he was cremated.

At a given moment, the caretaker here in Aruba started selling belongings of the deceased like his gas cylinder, fridge, etc. Saturday, they decided to call the police to intervene, and they told the caretaker to put everything back inside.

According to the neighbors’ information, family members tried getting the caretaker out of the house but without any luck.
