Last year: Aruba imported half a million florins more

The Minister of Economic Affairs, Communication, and Sustainable Development Geoffrey Wever informed us that the national importation and exportation numbers for the year 2022 have been released.

Aruba, as a small economy, imports a lot of its products that are sold in the supermarkets or stores. These are products such as food, clothes, and construction materials. These products reach Aruba either by ship or via planes from various counties all around the world.

In 2022, the value of products that were imported was 2.6 billion florins. Of this number, 2.5 billion was for local production and consumption, while 149 million florins were via Freezone for exportacion. When compared to 2021, the value of imported goods increased by 500 million florins. The reason for this increase is likely due to an increase of prices of the goods that Aruba imports.

This importation and exportation data gives us the opportunity to analyze the types of products that are coming and going in and out of our island. In 2022, the top five importated products were diesel and gasoline, jewelry, medicine, sugary drinks, and cheese.
