Parliament approves technical change in the fishing law

Last Wednesday, the Aruban Parliament made a technical change in its fishing laws, which was approved unanimously.

This change does not concern content nor location aspects, but instead, is a technical legal change. Before, the definition of a fishing zone was arranged via the “Machtigingswet instelling visserijzone” of 1977. When the “Rijkswet instelling exclusieve economische zone” or EEZ was instituted in 2010, this “Machtigingswet instelling visserijzone” became necessary.

With this technical change in the law, this redundancy will be eliminated and none of this ends up affecting the fishermen.

Minister Ursell Arends informed Parliament that these pending legal changes include topics of Spearfishing, Rights of Nature, and Rights of Ocean.
