Evelyn Wever-Croes: Refinery is a thing of the past

As part of the government’s vision for the future of development in San Nicolas, one of the subjects is the refinery. The idea is for San Nicolas to bid farewell to the old refinery which pours out black smoke, and instead, to replace it with a product that complies with the current standards of our environment.

Prime Minister Evelyn Wever-Croes explained that the critique and feedback from business-owners have been heard, and especially from those in San Nicolas. The first meeting of the Council of Ministers was held this year in San Nicolas which also saw the different presentations from entrepeneurs and business owners. Both DIP and DOW were also part of the presentation which was meant to showcase the interest on behalf of the government, but also from these departments, when it comes to the involvement in the development of San Nicolas.

Within this context, various important agreements were made with the intention of bringing more development to San Nicolas. A mutual objective from all sides. Wever-Croes indicated that San Nicolas has the extra attention from the government at the moment.

At the beginning of the year, Minister Glenbert Croes will be completing the residual work relating to the future of the refinery. The energy industry will soon be developing the land near the refinery’s property.

According to the minister, the refinery as it was known in the past with its black smoke pouring into the sky, will be no more. There is no room for this in Aruba, Wever-Croes expressed. However, another type of refinery that does comply with today’s environmental standards is considered instead.
