by Nicole

Police arrested six people during separate traffic and preventive operations in Noord and San Nicolas over the weekend. Officers also inspected hundreds of vehicles and searched dozens of people as part of efforts to improve public safety and enforce traffic regulations.

On Saturday night, police conducted a traffic checkpoint in the Noord district, inspecting more than 245 vehicles and issuing 95 fines. The violations included driving without a valid driver’s license, vehicle inspection certificate or insurance, using a cellphone while driving, and failing to pay the vehicle registration tax.

During the checkpoint, officers arrested a driver and a passenger after finding them in possession of marijuana. Police also confiscated a scooter because its documents were not in order.

Meanwhile, officers from the San Nicolas police station carried out preventive searches in several designated areas south of the bridge, from Saturday evening until early Sunday morning. They searched 90 people and 31 vehicles.

During these searches, police arrested four suspects in connection with the possession of knives, cocaine and marijuana. Officers also found a large amount of cash.

The Aruba Police Force (KPA) says it will continue conducting traffic checkpoints and preventive operations as part of its efforts to maintain public safety. Motorists are reminded to carry all required vehicle documents and a valid driver’s license.

Anyone with information about suspicious activities is encouraged to contact the police tip line at 11141. All reports will be treated anonymously.
